Oriental-style officer's saber, probably naval. Strongly cur - Lot 99
Oriental-style officer's saber, probably naval. Strongly curved blade, decorated with engravings depicting a radiant sun under a bundle of flags and military motifs. Traces of old bluing on the heel of the blade under the mounts. The heel has Germanic-sounding (Schimmelbusch?) markings on both sides, masked by the mount's auricles, indicating a blade probably made in Solingen. One-branch gilded bronze mounting (slight play), long-tailed cap with pommel featuring a sea dog, linking chain. Varnished smooth ebony spindle. Black chagrin-covered wooden scabbard with 3 beautiful gilded brass fittings featuring shells. Fine quality. Late 18th/early 19th century. Total length 73 cm, blade 62 cm (strong arrow).
