Bound in red morocco, gilt with small iron. Early 19th century. Born in Wilmington (Delaware, USA), Jean-François VIDAL de LINGENDES was appointed advisor to the Cayenne court in 1826. Appointed Attorney General in Martinique on December 10, 1839, he returned to Cayenne on October 11, 1842. On October 30, 1848, he was elected to represent French Guyana at the National Constituent Assembly. A member of the Colonial Council of French Guiana, he briefly served as Governor of French Guiana in 1851. Half-brother of Nicolas de NOMPERE de CHAMPAGNY, he frequented Jean-Baptiste de NOMPERE de CHAMPAGNY, Duc de CADORE, Grand Conservateur of the Grand Orient de France from 1806 to 1814, whose eulogy he delivered in 1834. The jewel of Souverain Prince Rose-Croix, which belonged to VIDAL de LINGENDES, is in gilded bronze and silver set with colored stones. In the center, atop a compass open to a sector of white stones, a flamboyant Latin cross of red stones surmounted by a crown of green stones. Above the sector, a silver pelican feeding its young. Missing pieces. Early 19th century.
