Wax case decorated with garlands of flowers, semi sequins an - Lot 200
Wax case decorated with garlands of flowers, semi sequins and stars, the base is emblazoned azure with a golden heron on a terrace accompanied in chief by two torches in saltire and surmounted by a count's crown. (Cadet branch of the Bertrand family). Three-color gold 916 ‰ with the Maison Commune de Paris hallmark of 1785, small works hallmark (inside) and small works hallmark (outside) and discharge hallmark 1774-1789 with ivy leaf (Variant) for the 916 ‰, Length 11.8 cm; weight 36.6 g. A genealogical note on this family from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France's Gallica site is enclosed. On the enclosed plate our number is 27, younger branch of the BERTRANDs, with a metal break in our case, the torches and heron are silver and gold. As the author himself produced the drawings at the beginning of the 20th century, they are open to interpretation. We know from other nobiliaries that the heron may be holding a fish or a frog. The variants found always concern the same family. The Musée du Louvre owns a wax case with an identical profile view and a face chased with cartouches, by Bouillerot, Charles-Alexandre 1781-1783, ref. R479.
