Imposing heavy cavalry saber. 1822-type blade, curved with a flat back, a hollow edge, and a blood groove, with no markings. The blade heel bears French-style inspection hallmarks (an “M” in a circle and a star-shaped “S” in a diamond). Heavy, German-style brass mount. One main branch and four secondary branches ending in fleur-de-lis and decorated with a hunting horn. Heavy pommel in the shape of a lion’s head. Sheepskin scabbard with simple filigree. Steel scabbard with two rings, also bearing hallmarks (R and B, each in an oval). Civilian-made or captured weapon. Total length 103.5, blade length 87.5.
