Fine polychrome earthenware, late 19th–early 20th century
Tobacco jar, made of matte pipe clay but glazed on the inside, depicting the handsome head of a sea captain—perhaps an English admiral—with thick hair and eyebrows, who appears to be gazing at the horizon. If this figure is historical, he would be worth identifying.
No mark, but Staffordshire, England, circa 1900.
