Garde Républicaine mounted troop helmet, model 1885. Die-cut - Lot 179
Garde Républicaine mounted troop helmet, model 1885. Die-cut polished steel shell, helmet cover, crest and headband with the coat of arms of Paris, bearing the Legion of Honor insignia awarded to the city of Paris in 1900 and the "Fluctuat Nec Mergitur" ribbon. Brass chinstraps. Black basane headpiece with 8 wolf's teeth, worn basane on the nape of the neck. Well furnished mane of good length. Very good condition. (In his book "Le musée de la Gendarmerie - 1871-1-45", Éditions SPE BARTHELEMY, author Eric Dagnicourt, a senior officer in the Gendarmerie and curator of the museum at the time, states that this model of headband, on which the coat of arms of the City of Paris is reduced in order to overcome the Légion d'Honneur awarded to the city on October 9, 1900, was adopted at an unknown date, but probably in 1907).
