Northern Italy, Embriachi workshop, first half of the 15th century
Wooden core case decorated with carved bone plaques depicting courtly couples in bas-relief and certosina marquetry. Stepped lid decorated with six angels carrying a phylactery or a tray in stylized vegetation.
Height: 23 cm - Width: 28 cm - Depth: 17 cm (one plate to be glued back, very slight accidents).
A comparable box with plates depicting similar scenes is in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City (inv.65-40).

Two-tone fabric lining the interior and 19th-century hinges.
Handle and feet missing.
