Two miniatures painted in gouache and gold on paper and bake - Lot 297
Two miniatures painted in gouache and gold on paper and bakelite (probably). The first depicts a pastoral scene in a mountainous landscape animated by numerous characters busy at their camp, with their herd of caprids or their horses. The second depicts an audience in front of the iwân of a palace, with dancers and musicians and two cartouches of Persian nasta'liq poetry. Both miniatures are signed, the first signature in the lower left, difficult to decipher, the second in the sky in the upper right in Rohani's hand. Each scene is framed by a rich polychrome painted border of lambrequins and fleurons and a wooden frame decorated with micro-mosaics known as katamkari. Dimensions: 58 x 48 cm (with frame) and 33 x 23 cm (on view); 60 x 45 cm (with frame) and 40 x 24 cm (on view). Some stains and foxing, wear and minor accidents to frames. Expert : Camille CELIER
