An interesting collection of brass items, including: a shako plate from an officer of the 4th Marine Infantry Regiment, made of gilded brass featuring an eagle facing left, resting on a globe with the number 4 cut out, surrounded by a laurel and oak branch and two naval anchors. A collar guard with a silver naval anchor (damaged). A clasp for an officer’s coat or cape, made of guilloché-engraved and gilded brass. A senior officer’s sword belt in red sheepskin, covered with gold-thread trimmings consisting of 4 bands separated by 3 red lines, featuring large gilded brass oval buckles, each decorated with an anchor. A pair of officer’s aiguillettes made of gold-plated brass (oxidized) and decorated with a crowned eagle. Excellent quality, Second Empire period.
