Tobacco jar - Lot 22
Tobacco jar Painted biscuit, Germany, 19th century Head of a bourgeois man smoking a cigar. His melancholy may be explained by the three large warts that disfigure him. He wears a tufted indoor cap on his head, which serves as a lid with a compartment for a humidifying sponge. Painted mark “26” inside the jar and on its base. May be part of the series of 27 bisque models from the Conta & Böhme factory, along with jars 8, 9, 10, 11, and possibly 243. Hat has been reattached. H 14 cm
