Tobacco Jars - Lot 44
Tobacco Jars 19th-century Bohemian glazed porcelain A pair of tobacco jars depicting a bourgeois couple seated in an armchair in their nightwear. The woman, wearing a blue-ribbed bonnet on her blonde hair, is dressed in a mauve dressing gown that opens to reveal a floral nightgown. On the left armrest of her armchair, held in place by her arm, rests a tray with a teapot and sugar bowl. Clearly enjoying her drink (the cup in her right hand is missing), she crosses her legs in a graceful pose. As for her husband, dressed in a white floral dressing gown with a wide blue collar and wearing a tasseled cap, he is enjoying a long German pipe. Marked in pen with “VII” and “105” under the woman’s lid and “2.80” under the husband’s; on the husband’s piece, the number 1561 engraved in relief on the base. The material of these pots and the style of their decoration allow us to attribute them to the Conta & Böhme company. Repairs.
