Tobacco jar - Lot 59
Tobacco jar Porcelain, second half of the 19th century. Bayeux, Captain Fracasse. Composite image showing a white porcelain barrel banded with midnight blue and gold, decorated with bunches of grapes and vine leaves in the same shades. Emerging from it is a musketeer with a bold mustache, wearing a hat with a large feather, who, leaning on the rim of his “cage,” seems to be waiting for someone to come and free him. Note that the hollowed-out hat can serve as a match holder. No markings other than the one with the feather, J 841 (Former collection of Eugène Jance). Formerly part of the Seita collection (lot 128 from the Thiers auction on October 4, 2009). Repairs. H 22 cm
