Large tobacco jar, made of glazed and colored black ceramic, depicting the head of a long-haired black dog smoking a cigar. The piercing, well-defined eyes appear human and are framed by large glasses. The lid consists of an extravagant, embroidered red beret that sits atop the jar. It features a red collar with silver rings, fitted with a rectangular plaque bearing no inscription. 19th century. Marked on the bottom with the number 507 and the letters F GW for F. Gerbing and William Schiller & Sons. It is listed in the Horowitz catalog under number 583. Seita Collection (lot 90 from the Thiers auction on October 4, 2009). Repaired, signs of wear. H 20 cm
