Tobacco Jar - Lot 60
Tobacco Jar Black-glazed terracotta, 19th: century Large tobacco jar, made of black glazed and colored ceramic, depicting the head of a long-haired black dog smoking a cigar. The piercing, well-defined eyes appear human and are framed by large glasses. The lid is topped by an extravagant red, embroidered beret. It wears a red collar with silver rings, featuring a rectangular plaque bearing no inscription. Marked on the bottom with the number 507 and the letters F GW for F. Gerbing and William Schiller & Sons. It is listed in the Horowitz catalog under number 583. From the Seita Collection (lot 90 of the Thiers auction on October 4, 2009). Repaired, signs of wear.
