Longwy, 20th century, circa 1930. - Lot 80
Longwy, 20th century, circa 1930. A cylindrical glazed earthenware tobacco jar with a “modern” style design, depicting a flock of four geese in a rural setting. The lid’s knob, decorated with three butterflies fluttering in a cloudy sky, is shaped like an acorn. This piece beautifully illustrates the quality of Longwy glazes, the production process for which was perfected by Amédée de Caranza in 1872. Marked with the coat of arms of the city of Longwy and the number 1321, with a period label affixed to the bottom of the pot bearing the name and address of the store: “Au Souvenir Lorrain.” The lid knob has been reattached. H 17.5 cm
