Tobacco Jar - Lot 80
Tobacco Jar Fig. 87 Longwy enamels, 20th century, circa 1930. Cylindrical tobacco jar made of Longwy earthenware, decorated in a “modern” style, depicting a flock of four geese in a rural setting. The fréthel on the lid, decorated with three butterflies fluttering in a cloudy sky, is shaped like an acorn. This is a fine example of the quality of these Longwy enamels, the production process for which was perfected by Amédée de Caranza in 1872. Marked with the coat of arms of the city of Longwy and the number 1321, with a period label affixed to the bottom of the pot bearing the name and address of the store: “Au Souvenir Lorrain.” Fréthel reattached. H 17.5 cm
