Tobacco Jar
Glazed earthenware, 19th century
A jar shaped like an antique brown urn, decorated on the body with four lion heads, each holding in its mouth a ring through which a garland of flowers and fruit passes. On the lid, a lion’s head identical to the others but larger serves as a handle.
Traces of red paint and gilding.
Marked with the number 28 and “R H” for Ralph Hammersley and Son, a factory in Burslem, Staffordshire, England.
