Pewter, late 18th–early 19th century (before 1842) - Lot 122
Pewter, late 18th–early 19th century (before 1842) An octagonal pewter tobacco jar, also resting on four clawed feet. The body features two lion heads with rings in their muzzles serving as handles; the front depicts a seated man smoking a pipe, and the back shows a dog in its kennel with the inscription “Rosser” or “Roller”— perhaps the animal’s name, as well as four bunches of grapes. The conical, two-tiered lid is topped by a seated greyhound. Rouen. H 21 cm
