19th-Century Bohemian Porcelain - Lot 129
19th-Century Bohemian Porcelain
A true celebration of femininity, this time in an intimate setting, this porcelain vase depicts a young woman with brown “English-style” hair—in keeping with the fashion of the time—seated in an armchair with a very finely carved wooden backrest, playing the guitar in a graceful pose. As always with this potter, the costume is meticulously rendered: a dress with balloon sleeves, covered by a multicolored floral apron and fitted with a midnight-blue bustier—itself fastened with a rose and red ribbons—reveals a frilly pink petticoat.
No markings other than the number 1.86, inscribed in pen on the edge of the left knee, but its provenance from the “Conta and Böhme Fabrik” is certain.
Minor firing flaws.
