A true celebration of femininity, this time in an intimate setting, this porcelain snuff box depicts a young woman with brown “English curls”—in keeping with the fashion of the time—seated in an armchair with a finely carved wooden backrest, playing the guitar in a graceful pose. As always with this potter, the costume is meticulously rendered: a dress with balloon sleeves, covered by a multicolored floral apron and fitted with a midnight-blue bustier—itself fastened with a rose and red ribbons—reveals a frilly pink petticoat.
19th-century Bohemian porcelain
No markings other than the number 1.86; marked in pen on the edge of the left knee, but its provenance from the “Conta and Böhme Fabrik” is certain.
