19th-century Bohemian porcelain - Lot 130
19th-century Bohemian porcelain A large tobacco jar, roughly rectangular in shape, depicting a young woman seated on a barrel organ partially covered with purple fabric; she wears a tiara, a red bustier revealing a generous cleavage and a white skirt, decorated with purple bows and small bouquets of wildflowers, which reveals the lady’s undergarments. In her right hand she holds the instrument’s crank, and in her left, a trumpet. Cymbals are attached at her feet. This is not an idealized woman but a more risqué figure, somewhere between a circus girl and a woman of easy virtue. It should be noted that despite its many “imperfections,” this Pot has survived in impeccable condition. Marked under the lid with the numbers 5 and 2574; however, its provenance from the Conta and Böhme factory, as with the previous piece, is certain. The trumpet is missing. The head is broken but can be easily reattached. H 245 cm
