Painted Bavarian porcelain, late 19th–early 20th century - Lot 141
Painted Bavarian porcelain, late 19th–early 20th century An unusual tobacco jar shaped like a curled-up lobster with black eyes and menacing claws. Already cooked and ready to be eaten, this piece alludes more to the pleasure of fine food than to the depiction of an animal whose presence in the home of a pipe smoker would seem rather unusual. Marked on the bottom with a stamp depicting two crowned lions flanking a knight’s helmet and bearing two shields marked with a “P” and a “T,” along with the inscription: “Royal Bayreuth Bavaria.” Chips on the inside of the lid. H 20 cm
