Polychrome terracotta - Lot 150
Polychrome terracotta Bohemia, 19th century Large tobacco jar, broken at the knees, as is typical of this BB full-length figurative series, which includes 130 to 150 different models. It depicts a corsair, likely Turkish, unless it is the Pasha of Janina, a favorite of Alexandre Dumas, seated on a tree trunk and wearing a cape with a drawstring, a wide belt holding three pistols, red puffed breeches, and a pair of embroidered black boots. The expression on his face—framed by sideburns and covered by a black turban that falls over his left shoulder—is particularly serene. The figure calmly awaits his enemy, with a saber resting on his lap and a pistol in his right hand. Excellent condition, with a patina from use. Marked N H (another BB mark) with the number Wear to the polychrome paint + the tip of the saber is missing. 61. H 29 cm
