Fine polychrome stoneware with a subtle sheen, late 19th cen - Lot 151
Fine polychrome stoneware with a subtle sheen, late 19th century A rare, non-figurative cylindrical vase by BB, painted in cool colors, celebrating the sea and the navy. On the body, four beige galleons, with all sails set and battling against a raging sea, are separated from one another by four burgundy lighthouses standing out against a leaden blue-gray sky. On the lid, edged with beige seashells, the child-like sea god Neptune—also beige in color, wielding a trident and seated on a dolphin—serves as a handle. Marked on the base with “BB” and the number “2%,” indicating its age. H 23.5 cm
