Matte-painted and gilded terracotta, dated 1910.
Vase depicting a Belgian military trophy consisting of a drum body and an intricately designed lid featuring a fur cap with a pompom and plume, two epaulets, a drum major’s baton, and its belt with two drumsticks. This terracotta piece must first have been gilded and then painted black and red.
Marked on the drum: F Gaby 1912. 526. 55; and on the base of the pot: Belgian work, grenadier. In an oval, the name of the manufacturer: de Soete-Brochard et C°*
*Adolphe Soete (1819–1862), a Belgian architect and landscape painter. Constant Joseph Brochard, born in Lille in 1861 and died in Paris in 1899, was a painter of figure compositions.
