A tobacco jar depicting the head of a Boy Scout with blue eyes, a peachy complexion, and a wide-brimmed hat that serves as a lid. Around his neck, a cherry-red neckerchief bears the motto of the movement founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1917: “Be Prepared,” which would suggest that this piece was intended for the English market. Early 20th-century porcelain (after 1907) Marked on the base with “H&S,” standing for: - either Hilditch & Sons of Lane End in Staffordshire, - or Hart & Sons of London. Listed in Horowitz under number 145; the author also notes that the same model is listed in the Conta and Böhme catalog (plate 83, number 6074) and that it comes in two different sizes: 5 and 6¼ inches.
