A composite tobacco jar featuring a beige bag, imitating bur - Lot 166
A composite tobacco jar featuring a beige bag, imitating burlap with clearly visible seams, cinched by a double blackish cord tied in a large knot where the upper third meets the lower two-thirds, marking the boundary between the body of the jar and its lid. From the torn top emerges the bust of another Boy Scout wearing a khaki shirt and a light brown, wide-brimmed hat that serves as a handle. The workmanship is extremely meticulous, as is typical of this potter. Glazed terracotta, Bohemia, early 20th century Marked on the base with “JM” for Johann Maresch, followed by a symbol shaped like the number 8; on the underside of the lid is the number 3689, likely the mold number. Chip on the hat. H 21.5 cm
