Ceramic figurine, late 19th–early 20th century A composite piece depicting a smiling tobacco shop owner sitting at her counter, on which the word “Tabac” is inscribed in capital letters. In her right hand, she holds a bundle of cigars, and with her left, she holds out a tray for used matches. To the right of the counter, three bales stacked on top of one another are used to hold cigarettes or cigars, and to the left, two tubs for matches. Marked on the base “Sarreguemines 1584” and “M 215.” Formerly in the collection of Eugène Jance (number 388 in pen), now in the Seita collection (lot 275, Rioms auction of October 3, 2009).
