A large tobacco jar, made of painted porcelain, depicting a bald man standing full-length, with thick sideburns, furrowed brows, glasses perched on his nose, and wearing a purple dressing gown with small flowers and a wide fur collar, reading his newspaper: “The Blackpool Herald.” Everything here, right down to the newspaper’s fanciful title, constitutes an obvious satire of the rising and detested bourgeoisie. Painted Bohemian porcelain, late 19th century Engraved on the base with the number 2557 and inside the jar with the number 111 in pen. Definitely from the “Conta and Bohme Fabrik.” Listed in Horowitz under number 560. Signs of wear. H 26.5 cm
