A composite tobacco jar depicting a cheerful, bald man with a thick blond beard, holding a cigar in his left hand and a beer mug in his right hand, on which the word “Gesundheit” (health) is written. Like a little devil, he emerges from a bundle of cigars tied together with a wide yellow ribbon. As is typical of Johann Maresch’s work, the figure’s features are highly expressive. Polychrome Bohemian terracotta, late 19th century Marked “Czechoslowakia. Made in Bohêmia JM 3624.” Minor wear to the polychrome glaze. H 22.9 cm
