Polychrome Bohemian terracotta
Late 19th century
A figurine depicting a cheerful, bald man with a thick blond beard, holding a cigar in his left hand and a beer mug in his right hand, on which the word “Gesundheit” (cheers) is inscribed. Like a devil, he emerges from a bundle of cigars tied together with a wide yellow ribbon. As is typical of Johann Maresch’s work, the figure’s features are highly expressive.
Marked “Czechoslowakia.” “Made in Bohêmia JM 3624.”
Minor wear to the polychrome paint.
