Painted plaster, lightly varnished, early 20th century - Lot 187
Painted plaster, lightly varnished, early 20th century
A large head of a hooded monk, with a broad smile, thick eyebrows, a ruddy complexion, and a sidelong glance that suggests the pleasures of life rather than prayer.
The top of the hood serves as a lid for this highly expressive but crudely crafted pot.
No markings other than an old label marked with the number 41, likely indicating its place in a previous collection.
Chips and wear.
