Tobacco jar. A whimsical composite depicting Napoleon III, l - Lot 201
Tobacco jar. A whimsical composite depicting Napoleon III, looking a bit grumpy, wearing a dented top hat and a frock coat with epaulets, who appears to be emerging from a sack of gold coins. Viewed in profile, the absence of arms makes him resemble a penguin. Unfired terracotta, second half of the 19th century No mark, but formerly in the collection of Eugène Jance (label J 1858) and formerly in the Seita collection (lot 286 from the Riom auction of October 3, 2009). Chips + crack. H 25 cm
