Early 20th-century slipware - Lot 204
Early 20th-century slipware A whimsical tobacco jar depicting a grotesque figure sitting in a large armchair, weighed down by the burden of his own intelligence, pointing with his right index finger at the inscription on his head—a sort of large globe—that reads: “I know everything.” Also available in a matte finish under the same catalog number. The sculptor clearly intended to mock a certain pedantic and arrogant intelligentsia of the time… even back then! Marked 4323 in relief and “Là la plume.” This model is listed in the catalog of the Fabrique des Bruyn in Fives, Lille. Normal crazing and micro-chips. One crack + hairline cracks. Height: 18.5 cm
