Set of two late 19th-century German stoneware pieces - Lot 230
Set of two late 19th-century German stoneware pieces Large, circular tobacco jar, shaped like a gray frying pan, with an inscription in beautiful blue lettering: “Kau Tabak (i.e., chewing tobacco) Grimm and Triepel. Nordhausen Gerg 1849.” These inscriptions surround two identical medallions, one on the front of the pot and the other on the back, depicting a man wearing a hat who is snuffing, holding a tobacco stalk in his hand. The lid is inscribed with “Kau Tabak Echt Nordhausen” and features a conical handle identical to the side handles, which serve as grips. Marked in a cartouche with two joined E’s and an H. Small chips. Height: 18 cm 20th-century German stoneware Identical to the previous piece but without the figurative medallions. Same mark. Height: 18 cm
