Penck, Markus Lüpertz, and Jörg Immendorff, he developed a rich body of work combining sculpture, drawing, and painting. His work was featured notably at documenta 6 in 1977 and was the subject of a solo exhibition at the Kunsthalle in Cologne in 1980. Rediscovered through exhibitions and research conducted by art historians, his work continues to attract interest for its expressive power and artistic quality, particularly in the works from the 1980s and 1990s.
